The Case of the Missing Website

“It’s always in the last place you look” is a well-known pearl of wisdom because once you find what you are looking for, you stop looking. But in the world of internet search engines, we have come to expect it to be in the FIRST place we look.  And where is that?  It is the first page of Google or Bing search results.

Some might go to the second or third page for their quarry, but most will adjust their search by then. If you have a website and you want it to be found by potential customers, then it makes sense to get your site to appear in the first or second page of Google’s search results.  Anything beyond that means your website is pretty much missing because very few people will take the efforts to find it on page 25.

Of course, searching for your company name or the company website address should always show a website on page 1. You want your website to be found by people who are looking for your offerings, even if they do not know your name or website.

If a company does nothing to help their site, it is not likely that they will be found in Google. There is only one Page 1 for each search so how can your website be there for keywords related to your business? It helps if the site isfast loading and visually attractive with a compelling message.  But Google is not convinced by that alone.  It is a complicated process that determines placement in search engine results.
